Spiritual Evolution
God’s plan is to bring man through different stages of spiritual evolution until he becomes a spirit creature who will take his place in the household of God as His children. We call this His Structured Plan of Design. This plan was not fully understood until the time for it to be put into play. As part of it, God planted the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden, knowing that there was a day when Adam would eat that forbidden fruit and that death would be the result of it (Genesis 2:17).
We know that God prepared for man’s reconciliation before Adam ate from the fruit of the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil because Jesus was the lamb slain from the foundation of the world. There would have been no need for a redeemer if man never entered into sin. However, what we experienced as a forgiveness of sin and renewing of our relationship with God, also causes a great change in our state of being. Because of it, we enter our next stage of evolution.
Men talk about evolution as if it is an established fact because they see evidence in fossils and bones and conclude that there is an evolutionary process occurring. Much discussion revolves around the controversy of whether man has evolved or was created by God. As Christians, we know God exists and is our Creator because He has inserted Himself into our lives in an undeniable way. We know that we were changed when we were born again. So now we need to understand that Man is undergoing an evolution of sorts, but it is an evolution of spirit, not flesh.
All men from Adam until Christ were the same type of man. The Bible calls them living souls. We go into more detail on that in our book Children of Tomorrow. Some of them seemed more spiritual than others and some were totally void of any knowledge of God, but all were created souls. When you were born again, you weren’t just restored to fellowship with God. At that moment, He took a part of His spirit and placed it within you. This Christ spirit makes you a new creature, different from any man who walked the Earth before Jesus died and was resurrected. Now you are a spirit man, having also a soul and living in a physical body. Your physical body is still under the curse of death but your soul and spirit will never die. We are currently in a transitional stage of evolution because this new creation work is still incomplete.
The final stage of our spiritual evolution will be when regenerated men receive a spiritual body instead of the flesh body they now have. At that time, our soul and spirit will meld as one and we will live in a spirit body which will make us completely spiritual beings but again, something that has never existed before Jesus was resurrected on Earth.
This has always been God’s Plan for man and it goes way past the simple plan of salvation that many churches teach. When you understand that everything is happening exactly as God has planned it and that He is in control of all of it, it is easier to understand what He is doing in your life personally. The more you learn to listen to His Voice in your spirit, the more you can understand His will for your life.
